Whilst not a gallery as such, the Historic Art Shelter was one of Nuremberg's most secret locations during the Second World War, where many of the city's most important and valuable masterpieces were stored within specially air-conditioned, insulated rooms. Located within the Kaiserburg castle hill, this unusual art museum is well preserved and comprises a number of caves and vaults. Whilst today the art works have been returned to their rightful owners, a number of statues are displayed here. This museum clearly illustrates how important art is to the city.
