One of Germany's most famous cities, Frankfurt is around three hours away, standing approximately 217 km / 135 miles north-west of Nuremberg. Frankfurt has a population of more than 650,000 people and is centred around the Main River, which splits the northern region of the city and features numerous pleasure boats. An important financial centre, Frankfurt is full of tourist attractions, such as the Main Tower, the central square of Römerberg, the Frankfurter Dom, the city zoo and the many museums, which are clustered along the river's southern bank.

Often considered a suburb of Nuremberg, the city of Fürth is a mere 8 km / 5 miles west of Nuremberg and features around 115,000 inhabitants. Around 60 km / 37 miles south-west of nearby Nuremberg, Ansbach is an appealing baroque-style town and capital of the Middle Franconia region. With an impressive old quarter and plenty of historical buildings, the Margrave's Palace is amongst the main attractions, dating back to the latter part of the 18th century and boasting almost 30 grand staterooms and an outstanding banqueting hall. Whilst in the town, also look out for the Margrave Museum, the Kaspar Hauser Monument and the two 15th-century churches.
